Monteau has a very extensive background in Indian Law, currently has been appointed as Court Magistrate (Federal Judge) with the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) at the Wind River Reservation in Wyoming, he has held a position as staff Director at BIA task force with the BIA reorganization, Harold A. Monteau was appointed as Chairman Designate and was appointed as Chairman of the National Indian Gaming Commission (NIGC) where has received a commendation letter from President William J. Clinton on his service as the First Indian Chairman of the NIGC and the First Indian to Head a Federal Regulatory Commission.
Affiliated to the Chippewa-Cree Tribe of Montana, he has been one of the most respected attorneys in Indian Land. As Consultant/Advisor to Indian tribes for economic development projects, in solo practice serving Indian owned business entities, Tribal Employment Rights Offices (TERO), Native preference in hiring, contracting and procurement, the tribal gaming regulatory agencies and gaming
agencies, tribal taxation and tax immunities, State and Federal incentives for tribal/Indian/private business partnerships and investments and financing reservation based business.
